Just when we took off our jackets and set up our chairs in the sun to soak in those missing rays we haven't experienced for months, the thunder clapped, the clouds were so black the lights over the Berwick netball courts had to be turned on, the wind off the Arctic circle blew in and the rain bucketed down, with a few bits of hail mixed in!
As all the Beacy supporters huddled into their marquee, our poor A & B Grade girls had to fight out on a wet, slippery court in what could be described as ideal conditions….for a duck! It was hard enough for all players to stay up on their feet, let alone catch a ball and do something useful with it. But with both teams in the same boat, the tough conditions slowed down the pace of both matches, but increased the errors. B Grade, unfortunately were not able to quite make it across the line, despite a great effort to claw their way back from being 11 goals down going into the final quarter, to only be beaten by four at the final whistle. However, these girls are quite happy to keep playing through and have another go this week. There is no rest for the wicked, as the girls enjoy the challenge of going in to finals (and hopefully the Grand Final) as underdogs and particularly enjoy playing through the entire finals series without a rest. We all know how this team has the ability to fight back from big deficits and we also know how they are able to blow oppositions out of the water when required. Hold on to your hats and watch this team come out firing this week to ensure they take that court on Grand Final day.
Our magnificent A Grade again managed to win convincingly through to the Grand Final against tough competitors Pakenham. The showcase game of the day suffered with lack of spectators due to the weather, but it wasn't short of the athleticism, skill and the amazing leaps & bounds we have seen all season from Bridget Gargan, Kellie Holland & Jasmine Maddocks. The training match during the week against the senior footballers had a great impact on the girls' game, as they managed to stand up easily to some rough, physical contests.
A special thank you to Beacy's senior football players who were a great match up for the girls. Despite their complaints of bias umpiring (due to a lack of knowledge of the rules on the boys behalf), they really gave the A Graders a run for their money, forcing them to use their heads and skill more effectively, and also to get use to the physicality that some opponents can throw up at them. We have never seen Bridget and Hoges jump so high to get rebounds against the monster footballers under the ring! Watch out for these girls Grand Final day, as nothing will stop them pulling in that ball! With a final score of 42 to 38, the boys are keen for a re-match, as they are convinced they will win the next time these two teams meet.
Congratulations to the U13's that also managed to win straight through to the Grand Final in fine style.  These girls are so excited and can't wait to get out on the court on Grand Final day in an attempt to bring home the flag for their Club. These girls have had a wonderful season and hope to retain their undefeated streak to cap off the fairytale season with a win.
The U15's was a real nail biter, with the girls losing in the last couple of minutes of the game by 1 goal. These girls will be out for revenge as they take their terrific skill and determination into this week's game to fight for a spot in the Grand Final. Good luck girls, we know you can do it!
Congratulations to all our girls throughout all the grades that were invited to League Presentation Night. Beaconsfield was very well represented and we are proud of each and every one of you for being included among the best players in our League.
Best of luck to the U15's & B Grade this week as they compete for a spot on the court Grand Final day. All the supporters will be in fine voice and will get behind you to hopefully help get you across the line. Best of luck to our two footy teams playing this week also.
