PPR Recruitment MPNFL Sharks Representative Netball Teams Dominate Frankston Tournament
The MPNFL Sharks representative netball teams proudly sponsored by Michael Stanley and PPR Recruitment played their third tournament for the year at the Frankston and District Netball Association Tournament held on Sunday the 13th of July. Joining the under age rep teams for the first time was the MPNFL Senior Representative Team
Senior Team
After the success of their Interleague campaign, the senior netball team decided to join the junior representative sides at the Frankston and district netball tournament. Their first match was against the Two Bays Netball Region who were likely to be one of the serious contenders in the Open competition. It was a physical joust, which our girls not only matched but exceeded, coming away with a 17 to 5 win.
The next 3 matches against Wallan 2, Wallan 1 and Southern Sting were challenging games but the girls won convincingly by 19, 14 and 10 respectively.
The final match against Somerville pushed the girls, but with some great defensive pressure from Mel Wursthorn, Jodi Bird, Jasmine Maddocks and Lauren Cherry, the girls were still able to pull away to get a 7 goal victory. Jasmine Maddocks was awarded player of the game for her great feeding into the goal ring from WD.
The senior girls finished on top of their pool and played Cougars in the semi final. Regan Brokenshire and Vanessa San Jose combined beautifully in goals and lead the girls to a convincing 16 goal win. There was a small break and then our team took on Bellarine in the final.
This match was not only about taking out the tournament, but about ensuring the greater netball community become aware of the strength of the MPNFL and the girls sure delivered. In another great team effort the MPNFL girls were able to hold a convincing lead at half time and then take out the match and the tournament by 12 goals.
Under 17's
The PPR Recruitment Under 17's Sharks again performed strongly finishing runners up (again) in the reserve division after playing very strong netball all day.
Although entered in the tournaments reserve division the Sharks played many games against teams from the open division and showed they are very competitive against the best teams in the state. We just need a little more time training and playing together and the experience that can only be gained through tournament play.
With only nine players available for the tournament the girls all performed strongly with their extended court time. Everybody played like stars but Mel Mantle in defense, Laura Christie in the mid court and Bec Sparks who played for much of the day out of position in Wing Attack were just sensational.
It was a great the girls were able to watch their coach Nic Robbins and assistant coach Mel Wursthorn play in the senior team, especially when they were able to offer Nic a little advice to help her with her shooting percentages!!!!
Under15's
For the second tournament in a row the PPR MPNFL Under 15 Sharks won the reserve division. It was a great team effort by all the girls who often had to play in the wind and rain throughout the day but were always able to play high quality winning netball.
In such conditions over such a long day the whole team was the best players and it is wonderful to see the players (and their parents) from many different Casey Cardinia clubs combining so well after only a few short weeks of training and now three tournaments.
Sensational effort to the whole team.
Under 13's
The first of nine rounds commenced at 9am and we played against representative sides from Melbourne City, Altona, Doncaster, Bellarine, Frankston, Cranbourne and Nepean and Springvale. The PPR Recruitment Under 13's Sharks blitzed our first two games against Bellarine and Frankston and were at the top of the ladder with a huge percentage. Then it started to pour so the girls had to adjust to the wet conditions which slowed down our pace.
We won all of our games to finish top of our section with every member of the squad participating in the games. In the 1st Semi Final we faced Doncaster again and beat them 11-1 securing our place in the Grand Final. We played Frankston in the Grand Final at 3.30pm and you could see that the girls were getting tired but they pulled every last ounce of energy in them and fought it out till the end. They beat Frankston on their home turf 7 goals to 2 in a fantastic effort.
Bessie O'Sullivan and Rebecca Cox were instrumental in shutting down the oppositions goalers for the whole day. They were ably assisted by Rebecca Binning in WD who took some magnificent intercepts.
The Midcourters Talarna Olsen, Sophie Llinares, Laura Breen and Mikaela Vincent worked tirelessly all day bringing the ball down and putting continuous pressure down the court.
The goalers Jazmin Valentine, Sara Tanner and Gabby Smethurst maximized their opportunities and were excellent in working the goal ring.
It was a great team effort by all involved and the girls should be extremely proud of their performance. It was also great to see Michael again from PPR courtside supporting us. Thanks to all the parents for their sensational support all day.
